This story covered a lot of different things: Grief, family, teenage romance, mixed cultures, and more. As a result, I think the main focus of the book (suicide & mental health), were somehow sidelined, despite being central to the plot. Too much teenage drama for my current tastes. The ending felt like it was wrapped up in a too-pretty bow. Nonetheless, it was an emotional portrayal of grief with a dash of magical realism.
