Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

4.0

I love Rainbow Rowell's writing style. Fangirl became one of my favorite books and I was looking forward to this book. I must say that it was good but there were certain things that made it less enjoyable. It definitely had a fan fiction-feel which is to be expected but there was too much telling rather than showing in the beginning. I feel like I can't be too hard on her because the first 7 books don't exist so recalling events was one of her only options. Maybe having more flashbacks would have been more effective. Having Baz absent in Book 1 was annoying but it paid off as it progressed.

This story found a way to exist in parallel to Harry Potter and still keep my interest which is a feat. The world of mages is so robust and there is so much she could expand upon and tel more stories in that world which is exciting.

I loved the characters. I feel that they were written well and relatable. The relationship between Simon and Baz was adorable and I was rooting for them hard.

I will continue reading books from Rainbow; she is becoming a fav author of mine.
