Cruel Paradise
by J.T. Geissinger
Dnf....sigh. This is my second dnf by this author who I usually love, so sad. The instalove didn't work for me....neither did her friend pushing the h into his arms just because he's hot when they all have really good reason to hate and distrust gangsters, really didn't like that. And okay yes, I get the instalove was because it's supposed to be a take on romeo and juliet, but I still didn't like it. Romeo and Juliet were repressed horny teenagers...what is their excuse?
"You just go around being unapologetically you. Living by your own rules. Trusting your own instincts. You let yourself take up space. You refuse to shrink to fit in. So many women don’t do that. You’re just…free. It’s refreshing.”
and
“It’s not inexplicable. I like you the way Newton liked gravity.” This plus promising to protect her for life...on day two, is a bit much. Like boy, you do not know her like that yet.
“She’s not daft. She’s perfect. She can hardly stand the sight of me, and she doesn’t trust me for shit, and she mocks me every bloody chance she gets…” My sigh is heavy and hopeless. “And she’s perfect.” again....day 2.
Idk, not my fav from Geissinger, seemed a little more low effort and formulaic than I've come to expect from her. A little bull in the china shop in terms of plot and 'strong female character'. I usually love her writing because she works it in showing without telling.
