White Fang by Jack London
4.0

I do have to share a trigger warning - this book is set in a Wild, and very different time to what we are used to, so animal maltreatment is a common theme in this book. It got rather difficult to read at time’s, but I promise if you persevere it’s worth it. Also worth noting this book was originally published in 1906, so the language is quite old and colourful.

What a ride. I was so young when I used to watch the movie, with a very young Ethan Hawke, so I will admit I forgot what an emotional roller coaster this story is. This book invoked more emotions than any book I’ve read this year. It has left me feeling quite physically drained - I felt everything from anger, pure hatred, frustration, disgust, disappointment and annoyance to joy, relief, happiness, elation and wonder. It is not a book for the faint of heart - it’s rough, it’s wild, it’s a journey through the life of a young wolf, his perspectives, experiences and learnings.

I am reminded of why I have always had a fascination and respect for wolves, almost a sense of kinship with them.
