Magpie Murders
by Anthony Horowitz
FINE. I READ IT. AND YES IT IS GOOD.
Susan is a bit wooden and the whole thing is longer than it needs to be but the mystery-within-a-mystery is quite fun and excellently handled. It has the clinical detachment of Golden Age crime with the inventive, meta reveals of a modern whodunnit.
I wish it was a little less wordy but in the end, I really did enjoy it. I adored Atticus Pünd—world’s best Poirot knockoff.
