Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for an Advanced Reader's copy of this book. This is also is a standalone novel which is also great because then your not thrown into a series you have no understanding of because you haven't read the other books.
Natural Resource Police Officer, Sloan Cooper and her partner during duty have just taken down three men preying on hikers in the western Maryland mountains. On the way back they pulled into a convenience store, they ended up walking into a robbery in the progress. A gunshot from one anxiety ridden gunman could change her world. After being shocked back to life on the operating table, she has a long recovery ahead of her, so she moves in for a short while into her parents peaceful home in Heron's Rest. As for the boyfriend that dumped her via text while she was in the hospital recovering from a gunshot wound, good riddance.
She may be down, but things are about to change for the better. When a women vanishes from her car without a trace, leaving her car behind in the supermarket parking lot, Sloan starts to look online for similar cases. She finds more, and they spread across three states. Men,Women, old and young they seem to have nothing in common. Abductions just keep on happening. The good thing for her is the new man in her life shares a passion for solving crimes. She is willing to risk her life again if that's what it takes to stop everything.
I enjoyed this book a lot. This is my first Nora Roberts book I do have another one on my shelf but that's more of a Christmas/romance book this was a mystery/ thriller. I did like some of the characters in this book. Nash wasn't my favourite person their was one scene I think they were in the kitchen of his house, and he was talking to Sloan and I just did not like the way he was talking to her, something about it just threw me off. This is one crazy book with some even crazier people, I was astonished as to what these people were doing to others. This is a suspenseful read cause I did wonder what would happen or when something would happen every single chapter which after awhile it got boring to anticipate what was happening so I gave up and just read the book. There was nothing really special about this book. It was entertaining.
I think the book could have gone without the serial killers plot line it was just weird and lowkey felt wrong reading it. Honestly they were also just really really crazy.
The thing I could have done without is the long chapters, I am the type of person that loves, loves short chapters so when you give me a long chapter I'll sit there for a little bit and contemplate my life. When the book has short chapters I feel like reading the book just fly's by and I feel so accomplished when there are short chapters. I hope everyone that reads this book enjoys it and they find it thrilling and interesting. Happy Reading!!!!
