The Only One Left by Riley Sager

5.0

Following a home caregiver who is assigned to work for a woman accused of committing a brutal massacre decades earlier, this psychological thriller was just what my heart ordered.

It's gothic and chilling setting right on the cliffside with a crumbling mansion just waiting to slide into the ocean really intensifies the darkness exuding from within the house.

It's Lizzie Borden inspired premise was perfect. The story centres around a woman who is believed to have murdered her entire family in the house when she was a teenager in a very bloody and horrendous massacre.

I loved Kit, our protagonist. Her portrayal was complex and intricate. Throughout the time she cares for Lenora, the elderly woman accused of the murders, she begins to learn the truth about what happened that fateful night. At the same time, the readers also learn about Kit's own dark past.

I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it for your summer reading list!
