The Queen's Rising by Rebecca Ross
5.0

**update** rereading this made me appreciate some of the things i didnt when I first read it. like the bond between a father and a daughter. That was bone shattering, he would kill anyone who looked at her funny. All because daughters are cherished. And the romance was another thing, during my first reread, I was hesitant to get fully on board, because of the circumstances, but in this read, i was HERE FOR IT. Man, it was sizzling, crackling, ugh the tension. it was so hot. And it was so passionate. Damn. I really loved it. And the loyalty and bravery, and courage shown in this book, just...wow. I really liked all the deeper meaning underneath it all.

"One day, a Queen will rise, perhaps it will be in our lifetime, perhaps the one to follow us, but Maevana will remember who she is and unite for a great purpose"

Hey guys, so I finished The Queen's Rising by Rebecca Ross. I liked it. Although the storyline did not play out how exactly I thought it would, I liked how the author chose to twist it. Seriously, there were several subtle clues that pointed to the storyheading in one direction, where it completely flung the other. Maybe I read too much into the hints. Or perhaps they werent hints at all and just random text, ha. Speaking of the text, I rather enjoyed how the author wrote this novel. Most of the descriptions were easy and effortlessly flowed into the storyline. Most of it was needed for the characters and to understand the plot. Ross didnt go all willy nilly with the description, she simply had just enough to get the point across, and maybe just a tad more for extra flare. But that was it. No more, no less, in my opinion. I thought that the very world was intriguing as well. Like how the passions worked and the differences between the two countries and yeah, simple random world building like that. As to the direct plot building, well, it was pretty good. However, I definitely think that it could have built up the suspense, mystery, revelations and betrayals a bit more. Like, they were there, but they didnt really have much flavor to them, in my opinion. I felt like the author certainly could have made them more surprising than they actually were. But maybe those elements werent her goal? Anyway, I definitely found myself reading more quickly after each revelation, just to the see the fallout, ha. But then I would have to reread what I just read to let it sink in. Another note, the pacing at first felt slowish, then a bit rushed then it calmed, and I dont know what was going on, if that was just the way I interpret it or what. So...yeah. Other than those little things, I quite enjoyed the storyline. I also liked Brienna and her determination and commitment and her bravery to want to help a country she was only half tied to rise from the horrid oppression it had been subjected to because of the other country she was half tied to. The one flaw that was apparent was how she got easily distracted by Cartier. I swear, every time he is involved, all her motivation and her missions go flying out of her mind. Gods. Maybe that's normally how one is suppose to react when their crush is around? Idk. Im not like that, so....*coughs* But yeah. Brienna and Cartier, I spotted that ship miles away! Seriously. At first I was like, wait, how old is he and she?? Then I remember that one of my fav ships Feysand, one is like 500 and the other 21, so guess age is a thing that is not consequential. Apparently. But then I found out Cartier wasnt tooo old, I think. Kind of guessed his age based on text info, it was never concretely stated. Cartier himself, I liked him. Can def see why Brienna had the hots for her instructor. Moving on, I also liked Jourdain. He was badass and fierce and protective and I loved it. And I loved Luc, he was so sweet and cute and I would have been mad if he...ya know. Another character I was drawn to was Allenache. At first he seemed nice enough and maybe even swayable. Until ya know, he showed that he didnt care a lick for his blood. So there goes that. Oh well. He was intriguing while he was there. So yeah, I liked the characters, I liked the storyline, I liked this book in general. There is one more thing I have to note. The author includes a cast of characters and family trees at the very beginning of the novel. I was advised not to read the family trees, cause that would spoil a lot. So I didnt. I felt it helped. But that meant that I went to the cast of characters several times, and that kind of spoiled stuff too. So I guess you decide what to do with those, when you guys read this novel. Okay, as always, if you have any questions or comments, drop em below. Till next time, bye.
