Look Both Ways: A Tale Told in Ten Blocks
by Jason Reynolds
This book is a set of ten vignettes centered around a radius of a few blocks around an area school. From best friends that steal pocket change to a skateboarding girl who wants to be like her sister and a young boy who is worried about his mother, they are all heartwarming and draw the reader in. It was great to see how the characters from each story may pop up in the background of other stories.
Jason Reynolds does it again, and for a more middle grade audience. The stories are well written, with each having its own voice and feel as the community deals with the different aspects of their lives after school. Perfect for 6th and 7th graders, probably even some 5th graders.
