An overarching theme of resilience and evolution: if one does not master his circumstances, he will be mastered by them. Like a peppered moth.

Why did I like this? It was so slow—painfully slow. But somehow never boring? The characters were delightful and there was something so magical about the setting itself. Drawn on the backdrop of the darkest moments and darkest landscapes in history, this sparkling hotel is full of life and hope and delicious food and kindhearted personalities in the most surprising way.

It was lovely, but not world shattering. The jumpy timeline made it hard to feel fully invested in characters like Nina and Sofia.
