You Love Me by Caroline Kepnes

While I did enjoy this quite a bit more than Hidden Bodies, this book was still a disappointment after loving You so much.

This novel follows Joe Goldberg as he becomes obsessed with another woman, this time in the PNW. Throughout the first half of this book I thought it was a neat premise and I was excited about where the story was going. However, too much went wrong for me.

For one thing, as much as I had liked Joe's inner monologue in the first few books, he became almost unbearable by the end of this one. The word choices he used for certain body parts (I physically cringed when he used the term "lemonhead" repeatedly), the way he described and thought about certain characters (Mary Kay's feminist teacher friend especially was complained about incessantly), and the constant pining without any real story telling became too much.

Another aspect that I didn't really enjoy was how off some of the characters seemed. Specifically, Mary Kay, her daughter, and Love. By the end of the novel they had all had such out-of-character moments that I did not feel like I knew them in the story at all. I understand that most of these irregularities were supposed to be twists towards the end of the story, but it just didn't ring true to me.

Lastly, I felt like so many different things happened in the last 5 chapters of the book that the climax barely felt exciting by the end. Quite honestly I was just ready for it to be over.

I will say, the setting of the PNC was so much nicer than LA. Otherwise, this one was mostly a miss for me.
