Velvet Elvis: Repainting the Christian Faith by Rob Bell

4.0

Recommend by a friend. I enjoyed this book and the perspective it offered regarding how some Christians choose to interrupt their faith in this very complex world.

As an agnostic I often wonder what draws people to organized religion and especially a religion with such a troubled past. This book was a beautiful look behind one of many curtains that make up Christianity today.

I firmly believe we can find truths and best practices for our lives is a variety of places not just in the practices of those like us. Two take aways I got from this book were, first the confirmation that it is only by examining and addressing our beliefs formulated at an early age can we become better and more whole adults interacting with the world from a place or wholeness. Second, a weekly practice of taking time for oneself and intentionally being non productive allows us to appropriate life and interact with the world in a more positive way.
