Such a great read! I picked this up first and foremost because I love RBG but don't know that much about her other than the usual talking points, and, secondly, because I needed an audiobook for a drive. If I thought I loved her before, I KNOW I love her now! This woman is incredible and I found myself yelling triumphantly to myself in my car as I listened to her various accomplishments, crisp witticisms, and overall bad-assery.

This book really highlighted several important things for me.

1.) Women really, honestly faced some tough stuff in the recent past. RBG was fired from a job because she was pregnant. I knew, intellectually, factually, that that kind of stuff happened, but it was different when you heard about it happening to RBG. Or, she didn't get hired quite a few times because she was a woman. And so often they didn't even try to mask their sexism. The people refusing to hire her legit said things like, "She's a woman, so I know she won't work as hard or be as smart as a man." Crazy.

2.) Sexism hurts everyone. I really loved how RBG is committed to working towards more of a gender-neutral future than focusing solely on women because she's a woman and because feminism is often thought to be a woman's issue. If we are to be truly free, we have to work on freeing us all from the shackles of sexism, and it is instructive to understand how sexism affects everyone's lives.

3.) You don't have to be mean to disagree. One of RBG's best friends was Antonin Scalia. They were diametrically opposed when it comes to politics, most of the time, anyway, but they were great friends. They both understood that you could vehemently disagree at work and still be able to drop that at the end of the day and be friends. Likewise, you aren't going to win any battles just by being mean. Prove your case. Use facts. You don't need to drag others down in the process.

4.) Finding someone who loves and supports you is amazing. I feel like I found someone like that, like RBG did, and it has made my life exponentially better. Her wonderful husband, Marty, supported her and was proud of her and helped raise their children and was active on her behalf. That kind of unconditional love is rare and beautiful.

5.) I hope I can do 20 push-ups at age 90.

6.) Jabots need to be brought back into fashion because they're fabulous.

This was an excellent, heart-warming, inspiring book that I thoroughly enjoyed start to finish. I learned so much about so many things, and it was refreshing to my soul. You should definitely read this one.
