I really don‘t get how anyone could read this novel and see in it only the romance. I approached the book with these kinds of expectation, and was at first slightly worried I would dislike the whole thing, simply because the “romance“ is no (central) aspect of the story until the climax/catastrophe which contains these extreme, impressive, yet also disturbing love confessions. Don‘t get me wrong, I loved this aspect, but not in terms of a beautiful love story, but as another aspect of a novel full of violence and aggression as well as a whole lot of other emotions, conflicts, themes.
I don‘t want to continue displaying my amateurish ideas, I can happily leave that to Pauline Nestor (and Lucasta Miller) who edited this edition and hence wrote the reflective, intriguing and interesting introduction.
