Gentleman Jim by Mimi Matthews

DNF 67%. I wasn't feeling it. This book starts out like the Princess Bride with a wealthy, entitled girl in love with a boy beneath her station. Tragedy parts them and the girl believes him dead. They reunite as adults but her beloved Nicholas is wearing the guise of St. Clare, heir to a sizable fortune and title. While I was initially curious over Nicholas' transformation I didn't like Maggie at all. She was simultaneously bratty princess and damsel in distress. When she saw St. Clare she raved over Nicholas declaring her undying devotion for her childhood love. I just think this book would've been so much better if she fell in love with St. Clare as the man he presently is, not the shadow of Nicholas. The rest of the book is them scrambling to save their respective titles and land while still loving each other. I just feel like that wasn't what I signed up for.
