The Fragile Threads of Power
by V.E. Schwab
Giving this 5 stars even tho it’s probs more like 4. But I eat up this world and all the characters so here we are because I love this series !!
Okay. That scene. With Nadiya and Alucard. On her and Rhy’s wedding night. Oh. My. God??
“We will each love him,” she said, “in our own way. I will give him what you cannot. And you will give him what I cannot, and together, we shall be a better kind of family.” THIS IS EVERYTHING. Such a cute scene.
So, as far as new characters go, Tes was cute but low key annoying as fuck. Hehe let me just built a door to nowhere xD LIKE ??? Bitch you are so damn stupid! But also she’s so young so I guess she gets a pass but mama keep it up and natural selection is gonna get your ass. Liked that she ended up going to work for Maris, giving cute and wholesome apprenticeship. High key I imagine Maris as Maz Kanata from Star Wars?
For a minute I fully thought Lila was gonna get sucked into the door to nothing.
I am simply very fascinated by Kosika. Really, REALLY enjoyed the Part where we learn her backstory. The pacing / storytelling of her sacrificing her blood and also learning her backstory was delicious and VE Schwab is a good writer. The whole Holland thing I was CONVINCED (up until they got to Black London) that he was secretly Osaron/Vitari playing with her mind. But now I’m like wait is this actually like his spirit guiding her and he/they are like a savior figure for White London? I hope so. I love that we got more of Holland. His character has my heart, truly. And he simply wants his world to be whole and for his people not to suffer. what an icon and true antihero arc.
Speaking of, THE WALLS ARE CRACKING WHATTTT. book 2 gonna go crazy.
Can I get an amen for my boy Ned. This man is carrying Grey London on his shoulders. Name him the king im so serious. If he dies at any point in the series im mailing VE Schwab hate mail.
Rest in peace Tieren. You were too good for this world. Very cute that Nadiya and Rhy named their daughter after him.
We FINALLY find out Lila’s eye was removed in Grey London by a surgeon as a child because they thought it was a disease. I’ll take it.
Okay, not to be self deprecating but am I stupid for not seeing Berras Emery being involved in the Hand? Like it makes so much sense. That man is so so evil and gross and literally a trash abuser. But Alucard??? That last scene where he turns his back on his in the cell and walks upstairs to Rhy, Ren, Nadiya, and Kell. That’s growth. That’s real shit.
So for like 33% of this book I was like okay so Queen Nadiya is in the Hand. But the MOMENT I read that scene between Kell and Ezril, I was like ohhhh so it’s YOU! That was a SUS scene. But yeah, glad she killed Berras. But also, girl you’re so evil what the hell are we gonna do now!!!
Kell got his magic back ayeeeee. Very excited to watch him be a baddie in the next book.
Overall, I enjoyed this. Definitely slower but it set up so much and I remain intrigued by all plot lines.
