One of the few books from book tok that deserves the hype it’s gotten. I do think that they still misrepresent it, though.
Tender is the Flesh is not splatterpunk, nor is it extreme horror: it’s dark near-future sci-fi. The most similar thing I can think of is Paolo Bacigalupi’s Pump Six, specifically the story “Pop Squad.” It’s a dark and occasionally difficult read, but a thoughtful and rewarding one too.
I absolutely recommend it!
