Pollyanna by Eleanor H. Porter

4.0

What an enjoyable read that was! Such a heart-warming story that has become, for good reason, a timeless, feel-good classic.

The story was so immersive and played out in front of me like a movie.

I loved the dialogues, the authenticity of the times and characters’ tone of voice.

I loved the interlaying stories within the story and rooted for Aunt Polly to find the happiness that eluded her with Dr. Chilton. And while Pollyanna herself would have been really annoying to be around in real life, she was written really well and was the glue that held the cast and story together.

I have also come to discover that Pollyanna is not an independent stand-alone book, though it did start that way, but due to its huge success, developed into a series of two books by Eleanor H. Porter and then more than 10 other works by several other authors. The remainder of the series follows Pollyanna into adulthood and various adventures. I will definitely read the second installment and decide upon the rest as we go along.

Highly recommended if you’re looking for an up-lifting story and the power of positive thinking.
