It’s hard to rate a memoir written by someone just in the beginning of healing from a very traumatic childhood and adolescence. I respect her choice to leave a lot unsaid - especially given the nature of her trauma - and it was very brave of her to share what she did. However I do feel like she should’ve waited years before writing this, because it’s clear there’s still a lot she hasn’t processed, like the role of religion and church in the abuse, as well as her father’s culpability. With a few more years of healing, introspection, and writing experience, this would be a better book, but ratings aside, I hope she finds nothing but peace in her future.
Graphic: Child abuse, Emotional abuse, Mental illness, Sexual assault, Religious bigotry, Gaslighting
Moderate: Adult/minor relationship, Physical abuse, Rape, Stalking
Minor: Homophobia, Miscarriage
