A look into the frustrating lives of other people and the even more frustrating human belief that “I could or would do better” than the characters we follow throughout the book.
Their inability to communicate. Their expectations of each other - also not communicated, just left inside to stew.
It makes you want to scream at them.
I felt that the emails shared between Alice and Eileen put words to feelings I’ve had but maybe didn’t realize. If only they could speak to each other the way they write.
The idiotic thoughts about existence and beauty.
Decide that the world is beautiful.
Decide that there doesn’t need to be meaning in beauty or maybe even existence that it is something you can just experience.
Take notice of the things around you that give you joy and speak to them.
And maybe that’s what they did. Maybe the book is about their journey to deciding.
