Beartown by Fredrik Backman
5.0
audiobook
Highly recommend, the narrator is fantastic.
So I have history with this book.
I picked it up awhile ago and couldn’t get into it.
So then, because everyone seemed to love it, I thought I’d try it on audiobook. It was much easier to consume this way, but still, I was feeling meh.
But then I found myself turning on the audiobook while getting some work done, and then while cooking (this never happens, I’m pretty much only a car listener).
And then I found myself reaching for the book so I could finish the last 100 pages.
I do not care about hockey. At all.
Which the first 1/3 or so relies heavily upon.
It takes its time to set the story up. And in the beginning I was like “let’s get it moving”. But in the end, I appreciated everything because it really gave me the sense of what it’s like to live in a small town.
I cannot articulate properly, or eloquently, how this book made me feel. But this is one of the most fantastically written books I’ve ever read.
