Beautiful Music for Ugly Children by Kirstin Cronn-Mills

2.0

I'm sure it's because it's a product of its age...but there was definitely some cringy stereotyping going on here. Everything Gabe does is under this microscope by every single person around him, which is entirely unfair (and perhaps too real). But I don't think it's fair that he's constantly told that crying is "girly", etc. And then there's the violence against transfolk trope that just doesn't sit well. To top it all off, his best friend...well, let's just say he could use a better one especially after that crapfest at the coffee shop.

Unfortunately, I found myself disappointed an uninterested the further I read.
