The Apparition Phase
by Will Maclean
Felt this book had two disjointed plots, with one I was more interested in than the other. I loved the retro creepy ghost story feel of it and the overall atmosphere of the book is neat. It's quite character led, and I can actually envision the characters (in full 70's costume!).
Twins Tim & Abi have an obsession about all things paranormal; they fake a ghost photo and it came with consequences. Abi disappears and we do not know what happens to her until the last part of the book.
In the next part, Tim finds himself part of a research group who undertake seances as they aim to retract the history of an old manor in the countryside. The individuals in the group have their own back stories that keep the reader interested and wanting more from them.
The story itself is original but whilst there's a lot of creepy moments spread out, I would've wanted a bit more elaboration in certain parts. Also thought the ending was slightly rushed... but the epilogue was heartbreakingly beautiful.
