Unearthed by Meagan Spooner, Amie Kaufman

4.0

Really, this is a high 4.5 star rating, it just blew me away. The description of Indiana Jones in space I’ve seen floating around is just spot on hehe. The archaeology love is plain and brilliant. The way Jules’ love in particular is described just flew off the page for me. And I love the give and take between him and Mia. It did feel a tiny bit too Insta crush for me, but only a tiny bit. Their banter was epic too. As well as Jules packing everything possibly including the kitchen sink, bless his heart.
I loved all the backstory we get, and the way the mystery is laid out. And the International Alliance definitely fulfills the creepy overstepping evil conglomerate role nicely!
I do naturally love languages and maths too, and sharing this discovery with Jules and Mia really felt natural and exciting as they found new bits.
One of the only negatives I can really think of is that the first big reveal was a bit too obvious for me. And the other is that it’s quite a visual book and so it’s a shame there’s no maps or drawings of traps or rooms etc. That would have been really cool. But nothing major on either.
And that leads me on to the ending. So right before the penultimate reveal I guessed what would happen there, but literally only a few pages before, perfectly timed and set up. But the final one?? No way. I need book 2 now to see if my suspicions about that are correct!! I know I’m being SUPER cryptic right now, but I really don’t want to spoil that for anyone. If anyone wants to talk theories feel free to get in touch haha!
