This is a fun sci-fi reminiscent of Douglas Adams or Terry Pratchett in its style. Max is a sweet character who has ended up with knowledge of how the many universes work, and accompanied by Ross the cat encounters a whole universe (or multiverse) beyond what he ever deemed possible. Wonderfully diverse and bucking a lot of the expectations of what sci-fi will involve, I loved Perra and Zoey, and how the importance of their presence in their universe would entwine with Max's desperate need to get away from his life as he knew it.
This book isn't at all challenging, but it isn't meant to be - I enjoyed it as a fun palate cleanser between heavier tomes and absolutely loved it. I will be reading the rest of the series to see what they get up to! Ross provides hilarious relief to slightly tense situations, and his unexpected knowledge and numerous forms was a particular highlight for me - I always believe that cats know far more than we give them credit for
