The Housemaid's Secret
by Freida McFadden
Considering this follows Millie and that she’s hired under false pretenses, I fell for McFadden’s trap, thinking it would follow the same pattern because honestly, I wouldn’t put it past her.
Everything was going predictably well until we switched to Wendy’s POV. Then all the murders happened, but my one big question is: what is Marybeth’s motive? What convinces her to go full nuclear and to what gain? We don’t know her well enough to understand. We’re left to speculate, which makes her actions feel abrupt.
She also gets away far too easily. How convenient that the police wrap it all up after reading a single confession note. How convenient that Millie suddenly has a new friend in law enforcement. How convenient that Enzo is so charming he can extract info from people at will. And honestly, Enzo and Millie ending up together? That came out of nowhere.
