The Death Of Ivan Ilych by Leo Tolstoy

5.0

A short but powerful novella about a man ruminating on his life in its last few weeks.

The way Tolstoy describes the pain Ilych is in during his last days in powerfully descriptive and intense. The amount of impact this has, as an 87page book is quite terrifying. It is not a happy book, there is not a happy ending. Tolstoy's literary skills are clearly evident in this book although it is striking how different it is from his longer works.

Overall a great read with a lot to make you think. I will be returning to this one
