You Shouldn't Have Come Here by Jeneva Rose

3.0

Each year, burnt out New Yorker Grace Evans throws a dart at a map and plans a getaway to whatever spot it lands on. This year she’s booked an Airbnb on a Wyoming ranch, eager to escape into nature and a pile of books.

Handsome and charming Airbnb owner, Calvin Wells, goes above and beyond to make Grace’s stay pleasant, and soon the two form a connection. Perhaps it’s fate that brought Grace here, but Calvin is determined he can be the one to make her stay.

This is the first book I’ve read from popular newcomer Jeneva Rose after seeing her other book The Perfect Marriage go viral in 2020. And I found it to be okay…I mean I guessed the final twist within the first five minutes of reading, but maybe if you don’t read thrillers as often as I do, it will take you by surprise.

While I personally found the ending predictable, I kept reading to see how we’d ultimately arrive there. And again, it was okay. The characters feel a bit one dimensional despite this being a somewhat psychological thriller, and the plot had so many red herrings it started to feel messy.

While I didn’t love this book, I am interested to see what else this author has to offer and will probably pick up The Perfect Marriage at some point in the near future.
