Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco

4.0

I struggled rating this book, because it's a really stupid book, but it's really fun. Let's bullet point this one. I promise the 4 star rating will ultimately make sense

STUPID:
The romance is really stupid. Like REALLY stupid. Instalove, and despite Thomas being a master class asshole, Audrey Rose is absolutely gaga over him. Except when she's not. Like, I don't even know dude.

FUN:
Despite this, the two have great FRIEND and TEAMMATE chemistry and are a great mystery duo.

STUPID:
The twist you can see from a mile away. The red herrings are over obvious.

FUN:
But what a ride we went on. The murder! The betrayal! The absolutely wild shifts in Audrey Rose's loyal friends and family.

STUPID:
The feminism can often feel a little on the nose at times.

FUN:
Audrey Rose is actually a really great feminist character- who is both "of her time" in her beliefs while also being progressive- shes a bright light of feminine energy. In the same way that her feminism is on the nose, it also succeeds on accident.

Like look. Don't go into this book looking for Agatha Christie. Go into it ready to have a murder party. Go into it looking to not be bored, because you will enjoy it every step of the way- like a sugary candy that you can't stop eating. I absolutely will be checking out the sequel books and get weird with Audrey Rose and friends again- because oh yeah baby- it gets weird.

Final note- the Audiobook narrator is amazing.
