Made For You is so much more than a sports romance. It touches on a heavy subject, and I think Madison handled it perfectly. She showed the raw, heartbreaking emotions of the topic while also keeping the devastating topic from overpowering the story. I truly think that’s one of my favorite things about her writing; she tackles many heavy topics with potent honesty but still keeps the stories from being overly angsty. No matter what topic the characters may face, it’s always the overflowing, unconditional love and support of the people around them that takes center stage, alongside the romance.
Vivienne is as sweet as she is sassy, and unlike the other members of her large family, she wasn’t one to insert herself in other people’s lives. Everything about her made the reason for the title all the more clear; everything that she was was exactly what Xavier needed. She was made for him.
When we first meet Xavier, he has quite a grumpy exterior. He has become a loner after being let down by those who should have been there for him. He has no intentions of having anything to do with the woman whose boat is now docked next to his. He had reasons not to let her get to him, especially after learning about her family, but the more time he spent with her, the more he realized: she was made for him.
The chemistry between Vivienne and Xavier was palpable the moment they met, but it was only a taste of what was to come. While they may have done their best to pretend the other didn’t exist, it seemed their subconscious had other ideas, as their mind and eyes seemed to have a magnetic pull toward one another; their thoughts were consumed, and their eyes continuously sought one another out—and that was before they ever really spoke to one another. The glances and sarcastic comments between them played out like the very best kind of foreplay, until the moment their lips met and it became all sorts of explosive hotness.
The emotions were beyond measure, as each and every one of the characters felt like they permeated from the pages, making their way to your heart until they became embedded in your soul. The heartbreaking realization that, while this may be fiction, some variation of this is currently drowning someone we know, even if they aren't saying it aloud. Speak out, even when it seems no one is listening. Break the stigma.
As soon as I read the first word, it felt as though I was surrounded by family, and each page felt like the very best kind of literary hug. Made for You is a mesmerizing blend of searing chemistry, a swoony hero, a lively heroine, a breathtaking balance of emotions, from giggle-inducing clever banter to gut-wrenching sadness with everything in between, and some of the hottest steam I’ve read all year.
As the years pass and the memories fade, there’s no other author who has ever been able to instill the very real unconditional love brought to me in the form of a fictional father and daughter. As with previous books by Madison, I was offered an unexpected reminder, and I will never be able to convey what that means to me.
