Absolutely delightful story by National Treasure Bob Mortimer. Don't come into this expecting the best mystery novel or a great piece of literature because this book is neither. The writing is really simple and straightforward (it literally starts with "My name is Gary. I am a solicitor.. I live in London.."), and so is the plot. It's basically a story of Gary going about his life while also trying to solve the mystery of his friend's disappearance on the side. There's a lot of focus on the mundane (for example, Gary in his car trying to find a way to pee without looking suspicious to onlookers, Gary taking a bath and having the time of his life) but there's also so much humour. I loved Gary's banters with his neighbour, the girl he fancies, the barista at his regular coffee shop, the squirrel that hangs near his flat. The best part about this book is that it doesn't take itself seriously at all. Bob had a story to tell, he told it and he happens to be a fantastic storyteller. I had a grand time listening to the audiobook, which Bob himself narrated along with Sally Phillips. I wasn't bored one bit, it was so entertaining.
