Revenge Cake by Skyler Mason
4.0

Revenge Cake is Skylar Mason’s debut novel. This is a second chance, college romance that deals with mental health struggles, specifically anxiety, and prescription pill addiction.

Revenge Cake is told from dual POV and starts off with college seniors, Leilani and Logan, taking a break in their relationship. The book jumps back and forth from the start of their relationship to how they got to the point of taking a break. We see that Logan has always been in a relationship, jumping from one girl to the next within minutes. Leilani has battled anxiety and panic disorders for most of her life, that combined with her lack of social communication skills puts people off of her. Logan became frustrated with Leilani’s Ativan addiction and asked for a break.

These characters were raw and real. Their issues, thoughts, and personalities were conveyed well and there was great character development. What started off as a way for Leilani to get revenge on Logan for asking for a break from their relationship turned into a way for these characters to grow, work on their issues, and move forward as individuals before they came back together as a couple. Although this book was slow in some places I thoroughly enjoyed it!
