2.0

I had high expectations for this book, as it is the first Koontz novel I have read in years, and the premise sounded fantastic.

However, I was disappointed. The main character felt dull and lifeless, he was motivated yes, but her personality was non existent and the constant focus on her looks became tiresome. Additionally, the potential for an intriguing exploration of the relationship with her late husband was missed. We never got to know him, not even through her memories, making it hard to emotionally connect with her story.

I also struggled to comprehend how she could simply leave her child who could have been in danger at any point and despite the need to get to the bottom of things I just can't imagine just leaving my child like that.

Furthermore, her inconsistent behavior, being careful in some instances and reckless in others, made it too easy for her movements to be tracked towards the end of the book.

Despite these flaws, I still loved the exploration of the misuse of technology and the corrupt actions of powerful individuals to escape justice. I can 100% believe that this could happen in reality.

This book has received positive reviews, so it might be just me but it fell short of my expectations, and I almost didn't finish.
