It feels like there isn’t a need for new superlatives to describe The Book Thief. It’s a beautiful story that will break your heart. I would just dwell on the exceptional quality of Zusak’s writing, ‘the sky was the colour of Jews’ might be the most hauntingly, horrifically, crushingly evocative sentence ever penned.
