March by John Lewis, Andrew Aydin

This is a wonderful retelling of the civil rights movement. I really enjoyed the story of John Lewis, and appreciated the beautifully illustrations. He does a great job of weaving his personal journey with the historic events that were happening at the time, and the graphic representation allows them to illustrate events that could be difficult to describe with vivid graphic depictions. This is especially true when Lewis starts to talk about the violence the peaceful civil rights protesters experienced. The violence is drawn in close up, focusing on the faces of those being abused, or is directed at the reader, depicting what it was like to experience the violence head on, rather then as a bystander.
