Daman by Jaclyn Osborn

4.0

DAMAN was such a great book and I couldn't love this series more! I was so excited for this set up -- an arranged marriage to align the Nephilim warriors with the ice dragons -- and I was curious to see beneath Daman's prickly and hard outer shell. I loved watching Daman learn to trust Warrin and I loved watching Warrin find something for himself outside of serving his dragon clan's army. In their own ways, Daman and Warrin were each incredibly lonely but together they found family and love and happiness. The fight against Lucifer's son is getting more intense and DAMAN took me on a rollercoaster of emotion. I can't wait to see where things go in the next books!

Content Warning: references to past abuse; short scene where Envy's power takes control of Daman and he uses his wings to push Warrin away a few times resulting in Warrin's cheek accidentally being cut.
So, I'm very conflicted over my rating for GRAY but I think if I'm being brutally honest about how I felt it's just 3 stars. I've been curious about Gray's book because as a side character he's been sweet and adorable and almost childlike. Even knowing what to expect with Gray going in, I had hoped that we would see a different side to his character, a more adult side that explains his past as an assassin and fit his long immortal life; but that information never really comes. Because of this I struggled to reconcile Gray's childlike behavior with the idea of him as a sexually active adult.

On the more positive side, I enjoyed seeing all the brothers again and the couples from the previous books. The storyline of the Nephilim against Lucifer's son and his army continues to progress and things are really starting to ramp up. I liked the addition of the human hunters to the fight and I appreciated the way Mason loved Gray for exactly who he was and he believed in Gray's ability to take care of himself even when the brothers doubted it.

Content Warning: references to past abuse, PTSD from military service, nightmares/flashbacks, death of a friend from suicide
