This was my first Stephen King book. I enjoyed it well enough. Granted, I rolled my eyes at a lot while reading -- the occasionally unsatisfying exploration of the premise, the often tone-deaf treatment of race and sex, the overall too-clever-by-half smugness of the narration -- but all in all it kept me interested and invested. I look forward to checking out some of King's other works to see how they hit me.
