The Night She Disappeared
by Lisa Jewell
More of a 4.5 star read. This was my first Lisa Jewell book, and I will definitely be reading more (not only because I own The Family Upstairs and The Family Remains, but because I liked this book lol). I thought the characters were well-developed, the mystery was intriguing, and the drama was fun. This book made me feel a little emotional and so much love for Tallulah, since we get glimpses and flashbacks of her past leading up to her disappearance. She felt relatable, and her struggles as a young mother juggling school and a relationship were so well-executed. Her mom Kim’s pain and battle to find her daughter were also powerful. Even Sophie’s sideline story was interesting. I did see where some of the plot was going, but I didn’t really care about having solved part of the mystery. I think the 4.5 stars is that and not higher, because we would get some answers to questions that popped up from someone’s perspective, and then it would switch to a different character/different timeline. I wanted to unravel some more of the mystery at some points without the shifting perspective, but that’s a sign of good storytelling imo.
