horrific and grotesque, but i couldn’t stop reading it. there is no likeable character in the story, but the writing style kept me feeling so deeply for the majority of their stories. especially
marek and his mother, who deserved much better lives than what they were given.

however, the many horrific moments in the story, and i mean MANY, feel like they are just there for pure shock value at times. it feels like the violence and graphic sexual violence is just there just to be there, rather than having an actual meaning to the plot itself. this is just a story of a civilization going deeply into shit, and the people around the community losing themselves too. was there really a lesson or plot? no. but, i liked it for that reason i guess??? idk….
