God-awful, and I choose that phrase very deliberately. This is a ready-made, pre-packaged rationalization for the narcissism and selfishness that blighted so much of the 1980s and made a comeback during the Dubya years - it amounts to trying to treat God as some kind of combination of Santa Claus and an ATM, with the excuse that if you're rich, you're better equipped to do good things, or to be a walking advertisement for the power of prayer, or some such shallow and immature idea. Incompatible with the teachings of Christ and every other major spiritual model, but it fits right in with the Bakker/Swaggart/Robertson/etc. worldview.
