The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
3.0
*Audible version*
This was for me, what we in the library biz call a stretch read (or in this case listen). I don't usually go for flowery period language, particularly when foreign geography/language predominates, but this is such a well loved classic I decided to go for it. I'm glad I did.
The story was deliciously complex and engaging. It took me months to get through it (mainly due to a baby-related hiatus) but I feel a sense of accomplishment for sticking with it.
I'm encouraged to pick my next stretch after a palette cleanser or two.
I'm eyeing Jules Verne...
