When She Purrs by Ruby Dixon
2.0

I can't believe it's come to this, but I'm DNFing a Ruby Dixon.

I loved, loved, loved [b:When She's Married|50357332|When She's Married (Risdaverse)|Ruby Dixon|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1578455619l/50357332._SY75_.jpg|75305242], but I really wanted that one to last longer, so when I saw a full-length novel taking place on Risa, I was super excited. But while [b:When She's Married|50357332|When She's Married (Risdaverse)|Ruby Dixon|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1578455619l/50357332._SY75_.jpg|75305242] was fun and sexy and interesting, this book is slow and sad and disappointing.

Kim is just a terrible heroine. I get it, I get it, she's a former slave and has trust issues, but that's no excuse for being a dull idiot. Seriously, she's just so boring! All she does is whine and complain and overreact to little things. Seriously, when she found out that Nassakth killed a dude that was going to sell her back into slavery, and she got angry and needed "space", it was the last straw for me.

Dixon writes strong heroines so well! Give me more heroines like Georgie, Liz, Faith, Piper and Nadine. They are wonderful characters and so fun to read about. But these whiny, damaged, weak heroines, like Kim, Iris, and Ariana are just so awful. They just don't work, and I wish Dixon would stick with her wheelhouse.

The problem with heroines like Kim is that it makes no sense why the hero would be interested in her. Why on earth is Nasskath trying so hard? Kim has no personality besides being damaged and weak. There's nothing holding them together as equals; he's just a caregiver. The relationship just feels so lopsided.

Additionally, the steam level of this book is pretty low. Does anyone else remember when Dixon wrote Erotica? Over 50% through the book, and still no real sex? The leg humping was a bit too strange for me.

And besides the annoying heroine and the lack of anything that felt like a romance, the story also moves incredibly slow. Nothing happens in this book. Really nothing. There's chapters upon chapters describing them just being around the house. There's one scene with a bounty hunter that could have led to something exciting but wraps up mostly off page. And they take TWO CHAPTERS to decide whether or not to go visit Nasskath's parents.

The cameo with the brothers from [b:Deceiving the Corsair|41136873|Deceiving the Corsair (Corsairs, #4)|Ruby Dixon|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1534186699l/41136873._SY75_.jpg|64097115] was cool, but I DNFed after Kim and Nasskath got on their ship. I just don't care at all about this couple, and I don't care what happens to them.
