Detective Inspector Huss by Helene Tursten

4.0

Really enjoyed this book. A police procedural, which I don't always love. Was enthralled from the moment the body went thunk, to the end when the heroine gets sent a painting -- all lovely. Detective Inspector Huss is part of a team working on the murder of one of the wealthier men in Goteborg, and we see event unfold mostly through her eyes -- but also through the eyes of her boss, who is older, potentially unhealthy, and unsure of dealing with the distractions of women on his team -- he is particularly not sure what is going on with Birgitta and the harassment she is experiencing. He muddles through, not sure he's doing the right thing. Irene Huss is also muddling through, but she feels clearer about her work than she does about her homelife with two teenaged daughters, one of home has joined a skinhead band which Irene is furious and frightened about --

Found the translation a bit uneven at times, but very much enjoyed reading this book. Characters, plot, settings, distractions -- all seemed quite real. Was surprised when the Hell's Angels showed up (in Sweden? Had no idea). Will read more in the series.
