Wow! This might be my favorite book...ever. The world is not hard to fall into step with, and I was immediately ensnared in the plot and struggles that Elspeth was facing. Literally ten pages in I could not put it down. The characters are very well-thought-out and the Cards are very creative. And the romance! This is a proper enemies-to-lovers if I've ever seen one, not the instant love that they hide behind banter, but don't get me wrong! There is plenty of snarky banter that made me laugh aloud. The sweet, kind romance behind them was balanced out with protectiveness and dangerous love. And I NEVER write reviews this long, but I can't help myself. This is such a wonderful, thrilling read. I even have been trying to prolong finishing the book until I could get the second one because I knew halfway in that I would want to read the second one. I absolutely LOVED it!
