The Very Nice Box
by Eve Gleichman, Laura Blackett
I always love a debut novel...I could see the denouement coming miles away but I enjoyed this book for all that. Ava, a quiet person who thrives on order and is in her early thirties, works for a home furnishings company that reminds me a lot of Ikea. I particularly enjoyed the product names, such as the Very Nice Box and the Cozy Nesting Tables, to name a few. This is a book about the workplace and about gender roles and about loss and coping with grief. It's oddly funny and the adjective quirky was just about made for this book. I enjoyed the characters and the office setting and the way the story ended. I would read another by this author. I read this in one day; couldn't put it down.
