Welcome to Basgiath War College, where it's more likely you will die than graduate.

Violet Sorrengail certainly has the odds against her. With a genetic disorder which, among other things, gives her loose joints and joint pain, she's already at a disadvantage. Preparing her whole life to be a scribe, not a dragon rider, doesn't make it easier. As the daughter of General Sorrengail there are many who want to see Violet dead. Especially Xaden Riorson, who's father was executed on her mother's order. When the General forces her daughter to become a dragon rider instead of a scribe everyone believes that she's signed her death sentence - including Violet herself.

I've been reading this book for a long time. Not because it's bad, on the contrary, I didn't want it to end! I've made myself read it slowly, to stay in this world for as long as possible. I've even gone back to re-read some parts, and naturally I've read the bonus chapters from Xaden's POV that are available on the author's website. I've mostly seen positive reviews and I wholeheartedly agree!

There are of course different reasons for enjoying Fourth Wing, but these are some of mine:
- This is truly an enemies-to-lovers; it took me a long time to see how Violet and Xaden could become something other than enemies.
- The dragons! The dialogues between the dragons and their riders are really special!
- Friendships; both new friends and old friendship that need revaluation.
- The characters are interesting and with flaws. It makes me want to know more about them, and why they behave the way they do.
- The world is rather uncomplicated and I can see why many inexperienced fantasy readers enjoy the book.
- The feelings! I've been laughing out loud, as well as holding my breath. I've been oscillating between hope and despair, encouraging and sworn at the characters in my head, and sometimes sighed blissfully.

I would love to continue with Iron Flame right away, but considering the insecurity of the third book's release I will wait a while. Let's see how long I'll manage...
