I was expecting an action pack thriller and didn’t get it. I’m still happy with what I did read. This is a character study on the effects of isolation and loneliness.
The author did a masterful job at creating depth for a large cast of characters and giving me as a reader enough development to care about each character fate. The interactions between the group built a fair amount of attention, as did the hint of building chaos in the outside world.
Despite the understated nature of the plot Zoo as the focus kept me interested. There was a fear amount of attention and suspense as the story went on. There were some disturbing moments, but it didn’t feel explicitly gory or attempting to use shock value to keep me reading.
I think the ending was perfect. I would recommend this, but not for fans of twisty thrillers.
