Sounds Like Love
by Ashley Poston
I had high hopes for this after Dead Romantics and The Seven Year Slip. I thought A Novel Love Story was just a fluke, but this lacked dimension again.
The magical element could have been effective, but was not fully executed and lacked realism, only used in ways that seemed convenient to the plot. The characters took it too calmly, the panic about someone being in your head was not fully fleshed out. A lot of it was still too much like dialogue - when it could have been more interesting. I thought it was also a convenient excuse that Sasha has a quiet mind, making the moments his thoughts appear in Joni's head more boring and linear. I didn't connect to the characters and the supporting characters also lacked depth. And it also just felt like this big city girl comes back to a small town plotline was overdone and this book did not add a new twist to that.
I still enjoyed the writing style, but the plot, characters and even the whole setting were a letdown.
