The Outcast by Eve M. Riley

2.0

A bad boy hacker living on the fringes of society meets a do-gooder doctor just trying to survive her residency. An interesting premise with good writing but the characterization lost me a bit. I didn’t understand why Adrian was so hellbent on being destructive and why everyone around him was so okay with it? The motivation just wasn’t clear to me. He slit his wrists in this hospital so that she’ll talk to him? I mean I guess… not my preferred romantic gesture but the fact that everyone (including friends and hospital staff) just agrees that’s an extreme but ultimately fine thing to do instead of something that gets you a visit to psych… I also found the opening scene with Adrian and the sex worker to be off putting - I just didn’t like him that much as a character which was maybe my issue with the entire book.
Overall not a bad read but not my cup of tea.
