Como agua para chocolate by Laura Esquivel

4.0

Romance, magic-realism, feminine self-determination...at times reminded of the illogical remarks muttered by my elders, women who seemed to voluntarily play a prominent role in their own subordination: their own poisoning of themselves. Casual social brainwashing. Transcendent love, bordering on lewd and yet always beautiful. I managed to cry during seemingly unremarkable moments, and hardest at its close.
